Rhosyngardd Cove

A personal piece for a novel I'm writing in my free time.

For many years, a small, nameless and otherwise unremarkable inlet, beset by ancestral ruins. Like any other along the north bank of the Great Lake. Now, however, it is one of the safest entry points into Arros thanks to the special variety of roses that grow abundantly here.

The roses were once thought to possess properties that would protect Mokai against the effects of the fog but, in their natural state, they sadly proved just as deadly. It was soon learned that over exposure to their sweet scented pollen caused a slow build up of toxins within the host body that ultimately led to death. Unsurprisingly, the ruling council ordered the flowers be removed from Ivorton.

Feeling guilty about bringing more hardship on her people, the lead researcher that first procured them left the city and spent the rest of her life cultivating the flowers in secret. Eventually, she produced a variety that was harmless to Mokai, the results of which can be seen throughout the cove.

The roses still don't offer any protection against the fog but at least their beauty can finally be appreciated. Despite numerous rumours, the researcher's fate remains unknown.
